1.Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) (GS-3) : A significant transformation occurred in India's healthcare landscape with the launch of the "Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana" (PMBJP) in November 2016.


This initiative aims to provide high-quality generic medicines at affordable prices, making essential healthcare accessible to all citizens. By ensuring that quality does not come at a premium, PMBJP is dedicated to improving health outcomes and promoting health equity across the nation.


This initiative, driven by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, aims to ensure that every individual has access to essential medications without the financial burden often associated with branded drugs. With PMBJP stores (Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras) offering generic alternatives that maintain the same quality and efficacy, it empowers communities and promotes healthier lives across the nation.


The PMBJP offers an extensive product basket that includes 2047 medicines and 300 surgical devices, catering to various therapeutic groups


2.International incoming spoofed calls prevention system(GS-3,Sci&Tech): Department of Communications (DoT) and Telecom Service (TSPs) have collaborated and devised a system to identify and block such incoming international spoofed calls from reaching the Indian telecom subscribers.


The system was made operational and it has been observed that within 24 hours of operation of the system, about 1.35 crore or 90% from all the incoming international calls with Indian phone numbers were identified as spoofed calls and blocked by TSPs from reaching Indian telecom subscribers.


Indian telecom subscribers should see a significant reduction in such spoofed calls with +91-xxxxxxx numbers with implementation of this system.


3.The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (GS-2 IR) is celebrated annually on October 13. It aims to promote awareness of disaster risk reduction and to encourage global action to build resilience to disasters.

The day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2009 and is observed by governments, international organizations, and civil society organizations worldwide.


Key objectives of the day include:

  • Raising awareness of the risks posed by disasters and the importance of taking action to reduce them.

  • Promoting the implementation of disaster risk reduction strategies at all levels, from local to international.

  • Encouraging cooperation and collaboration among governments, organizations, and communities to build resilience to disasters.


The day is often marked by events such as:

  • Conferences and workshops: These events bring together experts from around the world to discuss the latest trends in disaster risk reduction and share best practices.

  • Public awareness campaigns: Campaigns are conducted to educate the public about the risks of disasters and how to prepare for and respond to them.

  • Disaster drills: Drills are conducted to test emergency response plans and to help communities prepare for disasters.


By observing the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, we can contribute to building a more resilient and safer world for all.



  1. National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) has set up to provide the country with supercomputing infrastructure to meet the increasing computational demands of academia, researchers, MSMEs, and startups. It is a first of its kind attempt to boost the country’s computing power. National Super Computing Mission is steered jointly by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) and implemented by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. 


    With the approval of Technical Advisory Committee and Executive Board, a revised plan based on buy to build-approach was put in place. The first supercomputer assembled indigenously, called PARAM Shivay, was installed in IIT (BHU) and was inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister. Similarly, the 14th machine was dedicated to the nation by the Honorable President of India in IIT Guwahati.


    The installations completed as on March 2023 and their details are given below.


    They are all majorly equipped with applications to cater the domains like Weather and Climate, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Bioinformatics, and Material science.


    The salient achievements of the NSM are as follows:


    • A total capacity of 24.83 PF HPC machines are built locally and commissioned across the country.

    • Development of Rudra server board 1.0, Trinetra HPC interconnects, HPC system software stack 1.1 and various benchmarks (cloud, HPC) applications.

    • 17500 people have been trained so far in High Performance Computing

    • More than 5930 expert users from 100+ institutes are using the facilities routinely

    • 73,25,604 high performance computational queries have been executed till recently.


    Some Examples:


    • PARAM Shakti: This is the fastest supercomputer in India, with a peak performance of 1.25 petaflops. It is located at the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore and is used for a variety of scientific research, including materials science, drug discovery, and climate modeling.

    • PARAM Brahma: This is another powerful supercomputer in India, with a peak performance of 0.8 petaflops. It is located at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and is used for a variety of applications, including computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry, and astrophysics.

    • Pratyush: This is a supercomputer specifically designed for weather forecasting. It is located at the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting in Noida and is used to generate accurate weather forecasts for India.

    • Eka: This is a supercomputer that is used for national security applications. It is located at the National Informatics Centre in Delhi and is used for tasks such as cyber security, intelligence analysis, and scientific research
