2 . India’s Renewable Energy sector has achieved significant growth from October last year to October this year. According to the latest data by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India’s total renewable energy installed capacity increased by a staggering 24.2 gigawatts in a year, reaching 203.18 GW in October 2024 from 178.98 GW in October 2023.
This significant rise aligns with India’s ambitious targets in the field of renewable energy.
The total non-fossil fuel capacity, including nuclear energy, rose to 211.36 GW in 2024, compared to 186.46 GW in 2023. The solar sector saw a remarkable increase of 20.1 GW, growing from 72.02 GW in October 2023 to 92.12 GW in October 2024.
3 .Retail inflation : India's retail inflation spiked to a 14-month high in October 2024, reaching 6.21%, up from 5.49% in September, primarily due to rising food and fuel prices. This figure exceeded analysts' predictions and significantly surpassed the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) target inflation rate of 4%, with an allowable deviation of up to 2%. Key drivers behind this surge include a sharp increase in vegetable prices, which rose by 42.18% from the previous year, and oils and fats, which climbed to 9.51%.
Additionally, meat and fish prices saw a moderate rise, indicating broad inflationary pressures across various food categories.
The escalation in urban inflation from 4.62% to 5.62% and in rural inflation from 5.12% to 6.68% reflects the wide-reaching impact of these price pressures. Core inflation, excluding food and fuel, also rose to 3.7% from 3.5%, marking a 10-month high.
Experts believe the RBI may maintain its current interest rates in its upcoming December meeting, hoping that seasonal factors and an expected increase in agricultural output from the Kharif season could help ease inflationary pressures in the coming months
4 . Singles' Day, also known as Double Eleven, is an unofficial Chinese holiday celebrated on November 11th. The date, 11/11, was chosen because the numeral "1" resembles a bare stick, a Chinese internet slang term for an unmarried person.
Initially, it was a day for single people to celebrate their status, but it has evolved into a massive shopping extravaganza.
Over the years, major e-commerce platforms in China, such as Alibaba's Tmall and JD.com, have capitalized on this day, offering massive discounts and promotions. As a result, Singles' Day has become the world's largest online shopping day, surpassing Black Friday and Cyber Monday in terms of sales volume.
While it originated as a celebration of singlehood, Singles' Day has transformed into a global commercial phenomenon, driving significant economic activity and shaping consumer behavior.
5 .COP 29 BAKU: The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024, is a pivotal opportunity to accelerate action to tackle the climate crisis. With global temperatures hitting record highs, and extreme weather events affecting people around the globe, COP29 will bring together leaders from governments, business and civil society to advance concrete solutions to the defining issue of our time.
A key focus of COP29 will be on finance, as trillions of dollars are required for countries to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods from the worsening impacts of climate change.
The conference will also be a key moment for countries to present their updated national climate action plans under the Paris agreement, which are due by early 2025. If done right, these plans would limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and double as investment plans advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
